refinq raises €2,2m seed financing

Vienna-based start-up refinq builds new generation of risk and resilience software: €2,2m for scalable physical risk intelligence

Management team of refinq

Vienna, 10 February 2026 — refinq develops software that enables companies to identify, assess and actively manage physical risks arising from climate and natural changes at an early stage. To further expand this prevention-oriented risk intelligence platform, refinq has completed a seed financing round of €2,2m, consisting of €1,9m in equity and € 300,000 in FFG funding. The round is led by aws Gründungsfonds (lead) and Symbia VC (co-lead). Fund F and business angel Olivier Schwab are also participating.

Closing the gap in risk modelling

While conventional risk models usually map physical risks using aggregated probabilities and scenarios, one key question remains unanswered: Why is a specific asset vulnerable at this particular location – and what does that mean in operational and financial terms?

refinq closes this gap by linking high-resolution geodata with proprietary information on the structural vulnerability of locations. This transforms environmental factors into concrete, quantifiable, prioritizable and controllable risks that can be directly incorporated into corporate decision-making processes.

With this approach, refinq is already generating significant revenue with well-known customers such as Wiener Stadtwerke, thyssenkrupp and Mayr-Melnhof. Particularly in the case of critical infrastructure, industrial production sites and capital-intensive assets, the platform provides a basis for decision-making that goes beyond traditional risk models.

This not only gives companies a better understanding of their risks, but also allows them to prioritise investments, protective measures and insurance strategies in a targeted manner in order to reduce default risks and future damage. This approach is not limited to individual assets: Several refinq customers also use the platform to analyse their entire value chain, monitoring thousands of locations simultaneously in order to systematically manage risks and build resilience across their supply and production networks.

Prevention instead of just damage control

refinq's approach deliberately focuses on the period before damage occurs. Instead of limiting itself to aggregated loss expectations, the platform analyses hydrology, land use and the condition of ecosystems at asset level in order to reveal the structural vulnerability of locations.

On this basis, refinq identifies targeted adaptation and protection measures that companies can use to actively reduce risks. The "nature" dimension thus becomes an operational control factor – and a lever for making locations more resilient, efficient and usable in the long term.

“Climate resilience is increasingly becoming an essential part of modern risk management for companies. refinq offers precisely the operational depth that companies need to strategically manage natural and climate risks. Through its successful collaboration with its first major clients, the team has demonstrated its ability to master complex technological and regulatory challenges, and we look forward to supporting it in its next steps towards scaling up.” Markus Jandrinitsch – aws Gründungsfonds

“refinq addresses a clear market need with a scalable solution and a strong team that consistently drives implementation forward. We see great potential for further scaling the business model and look forward to accompanying the company on its continued growth path as a partner.” Alex Burger – Symbia VC
